One of a kind wearables inspired by the Floating World art movement in Japan which profoundly influenced European modernism, from Impressionism to the Bauhaus.

SHIBUI means elegant, refined and understated.
KIMONO is “something to wear” - clothing, jewelry and accessories.

SHIBUI KIMONO, established in 2003 at the studio of Patti Lechman in Memphis, Tennessee specializes in apparel, jewelry and accessories made from vintage fabrics imported from Japan. Authentic haori (short jackets) and long kimono are available, as well as custom designs using Japanese fabrics.

ABOUT THE DESIGNERS

Patti Lechman. PATTI LECHMAN is nationally recognized for her miniature knotted vessel forms in intricate patterns, colors and textures. Her work is represented in museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, the de Young in San Francisco and the Cleveland Museum. A college teacher of art and design for over 30 years, she has had a life long love of Japanese art, and travels to Japan to purchase fabrics and antiques.

GLORIA PARKS, an award winning designer, has produced distinctive jewelry and accessories in her Memphis, Tennessee studio for over 20 years. Her recent works feature Japanese fabric cords with jade and vintage glass pendants. Gloria Parks.
Bert Sharpe. BERT SHARPE, an artist with over 20 years experience in the museum world as an exhibitions designer, has an MFA in ceramics from Illinois State University, has exhibited his clay art widely and has work in numerous public and private collections, including Federal Express, First Tennessee Bank, Nashville Airport Authority, The Mint Museum and the Erie Museum. He has recently returned to his original love, pottery, and is producing functional porcelain and stoneware ceramics in his studio at Shibui Kimono in Memphis, Tennessee.
